Jolly the chimp was a swinging sort of a fellow - he could often be seen hanging from the trees swinging back and forth holding a bunch of bananas or a couple of grapefruit in his hands. But Jolly's favourite food was without a doubt jam sandwiches. There were rumours that somewhere nearby a jam sandwich tree was situated. So one warm day in July, Jolly decided that he would go searching for the jam sandwich tree.
His wife kissed her husband goodbye and told him to be back assoon as possible, and could he please bring a few sandwiches home for the children please? Jolly said he could, and promptly swung out of the nest.
He journeyed along for two days and a night until he came upon hid first sign: a jammy crust. He found another crust very close to the first, and then another, and another. He followed a trail of crusts and jammy fingerprints for some miles until he came upon his next clue.
swinging along metres above the floor, Jolly missed it. It was a little seedling, a tiny jam sandwich tree. Someone must have dropped a sandwich around here that sprouted into this! Jolly knew he was hot on the trail of the elusive jam sandwich tree!
Jolly was really quite hungry by now. He was saving his appetite for the jam sandwich feast that would surely follow the time when he would find the tree. Now and then he ate a nearby banana, but e took no relish in it. No, he was on the hunt for jam sandwiches! After only a little more travelling, Jolly smelled a delicious smell. It was warm bread, and it was evidently close by. Jolly was swinging as quickly as his arms would go. He longed to hold one of the delicious bread treats and feel it slide slowly down into his stomach! He would bring a few back for the kids and the wife of course, but first he must find the tree...
Then suddenly the tree came into view. Jolly whooped in delight. He could see its baguette shaped trunk and the leaves that were shaped like little croissants! The wonderful smell invaded his nostrils. Then he saw the branches closer. Not a sandwich in sight! Jolly howled in sadness and despair as a particularly plump bush-baby, with jam all round its mouth, burped and sped off into the distance...
